ASEAN Skill Competition (ASC) is an implementation of agreement between the ministers of labor (10th ASEAN in Singapore in 1994). Where it was agreed that there be a biennial skill competition among ASEAN member countries. ASC is an ASEAN level skill competition, as the pathway to World Skill Competitions (WSC). These two competitions were held once in two years in turns; ASC is held in even years and WSC is held in odd years. Participating Countries are: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Philippines. Lists of ASC:

  • 2nd ASC hosted by Philippines from 10-17 December 1996 - 10 skills areas

  • 4th ASC hosted by Indonesia from 1-10 October 2002 - 12 skills areas
  • 5th ASC hosted by Vietnam from 21-30 September 2004 - 14 skills areas
  • 6th ASC hosted by Brunei Darussalam from 3-12 September 2006 - 12 skills areas
  • 7th ASC hasted by Malaysia from 10-19 November 2008 - 19 skills areas
  • 8th ASC hosted by Thailand from 14-24 November 2010 - 22 skills areas
  • 9th ASC hosted by Indonesia from 11-20 November 2012 - 23 skills areas
  • 10th ASC hosted by Vietnam from 19-29 October 2014 - 25 skills areas
  • 11th ASC hosted by Malaysia from 19-29 September 2016 - 24 skills areas
  • 12th ASC hosted by Thailand from 26 August to 6 September 2018 – 24 skills areas
  • 13th ASC hosted by Singapore in 2020 (the next event which is being prepared)
In the last ASC which was held in Thailand, Indonesia got 13 gold medals, 6 silver medals, 8 bronze medals and 7 medallion for excellence. In 12th ASC which was hosted by Thailand, there were 24 skill categories. The skill categories are:

For the 13th ASC, the competition fields were determined in Organizing Committee Meeting (OCM) in Singapore by representatives from all member countries in July 2019.
The competitor selection and training process in Indonesia is conducted by The Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia (Kementerian Ketenagakerjaan Republik Indonesia - Kemnaker). During the selection and training center phase, Kemnaker cooperates with several institutions. Kemnaker cooperates with BINUS University for conducting selection and training for competition fields which are related to Information and Communication Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology and Creative Arts and Fashion. BINUS University held BNSC (Bina Nusantara Skills Competition) which covered skills below:
The final round of BNSC will be held together with other skills held by Kemenaker on July 31st-August 3rd, 2019 as national selection for ASC Competitor. Competitors in national selection are representatives of provincial selection, Industrial Selection (BNSC) and also LKS (Lomba Kompetensi Siswa Nasional) winners.
For each skill in BNSC there will be preliminary elimination that will be held on July 14th, 2019. Numbers of competitors from each skill that will be proceed to final round may vary based on skills, quota and number of provincial winner.
In the final round (national selection), each competition field will select 3 winners who must join training center for 6 months. After the training, from those 3 winners there are only 2 winners who will represent Indonesia in the 13th ASC 2020 in Singapore.
